From 1st February 2026, some patients will be eligible for 12 month prescriptions after national changes to prescribing rules in NZ.
This is not automatic , and always at the discretion of the doctor.
The majority of prescriptions here are Hairini Medical centre will not be eligible for this change.
When our doctors issue a routine prescription every 3 months, they will review your file for blood tests, hospital or urgent care attendance, specialist letters, and changes to your health. This is an important part of chronic care management, especially for patients over 65 years old.
Therefore if you wish to have a longer prescription, we encourage you to discuss any requests with your doctor and they will advise their recommendation.
